"Forest Floor-Everything As It Was" is meant to be seen as a "moment in time" to appreciate the abundance of beauty within our current natural world. But also portray to the viewer that if not careful, we will only be able to reflect on the beauty that was and our past choices.
The center is a very large hand-pressed relief print from a large old growth Cedar Tree sourced from Drummond Island. The blue and light blue tones come from washing the entire piece with a light sensitive chemical called cyanotype and exposing to the sun with a variety of ferns and flora which leaves their shadows a lighter blue. Several of the same ferns were used after that process and had a gold medium applied and then pressed onto the paper to create more movement.
The frame is made out of chipboard that has been coated in gold leafing and sealed to preserve luminosity.
